“Soft Skills for Students” - Professor M.S.Rao

“In today’s competitive environment, it is not enough to be the best in your field, intellectually.  Competency is only half of what you need to climb the ladder of success. The other half is the softer side of you – it’s that part of you that will be liked, admired, trusted and remembered.” – Carole Nicola Ides

There are a number of people with great qualifications but don’t know how to speak pleasantly with others.  In fact, companies conduct several training programs to their employees to teach them how to talk politely.  May I call it as soft skills?  Of course!  Soft skills are the skills, traits, abilities about your personality, attitude and behavior.  There are companies that emphasize on providing soft skills training to their employees to enable them develop right attitude, personality and behavior apart from developing their communication skills. It helps companies immensely as employees have to talk to various stakeholders constantly.  A pleasant conversation with etiquette will help create a good impression among others and gain acceptance from them.

Studies show that one of the main reasons for firing the employees is lack of soft skills followed by poor performance.  Therefore, students must learn to acquire soft skills while in the education institution itself so that they will have better chances of being employed.  And after joining the employment they will be able to gel well with others to work effectively with good interpersonal skills and grow as successful professionals.

Remember how you speak is more important than what you speak!

“The way we communicate with others and with ourselves ultimately determines the quality of our lives.” – Anthony Robbins
