When I worked as a professor in a
college I used to commute in the college bus as I wanted to connect and mingle
with my students to understand their psychology and to counsel them during the commuting
time. The college changed the buses regularly depending on the routes, the students
and the staff of the college, and also based on the contractual agreement the
college had with its contractors.
I always read books whenever I found
time and especially during commuting as it saved my time. During the commuting
some commuters in the bus would talk to each another and some would sleep until
they reached their destination. However, I used to read books regularly as I
was a book reviewer for various prestigious international journals.
Additionally, I maintained this habit since childhood.
One day, the bus driver asked me in
the bus, “Sir, you don’t talk to anybody in the bus. You always read books. I
am very happy to see a professor like you.”
I was touched with his kind compliment
and I appreciated his observation of commuters in the bus. I told him, “The
more I read, the better I teach to my students.”
He was highly inspired with my
response. He stopped bus and saluted. He said, “Nowadays I rarely come across professors
like you who is dedicated and passionate to shape students. I found a unique
response from a unique professor like you. I will never forget you in my life.”
I responded, “I perform my duty
properly whether other professors perform their duties properly or not. God
gifted us life and we must understand how to make use of our time to make a
difference in the lives of students.”
The driver was touched with my
response. Once again, the bus driver saluted me with excitement in front of
other commuters who were mostly students.
I am passionate about students. I
always think about the ways and means to inspire students. I always read books
for the betterment of my students. I always share knowledge to groom my
students. I write articles on students and blog them regularly to inspire my
students. I always contribute something to students as I am passionate about
students. As a result, they affectionately crowned me with a title, ‘Professor
M.S.Rao Born for the Students’. God gifted me life and I must deliver something
meaningful to the society before I depart this world.
A good teacher is a good learner. A
great teacher is a continuous leaner who often thinks about shaping students
and inspiring them. We all have one life and we must make use of it
meaningfully for the progress of the people around us and for the prosperity of
society. Every profession is a respectable one as long as it adds value to
others and serves the society. Therefore, everyone must be committed and
dedicated to improve themselves continuously to add value to the society as we
all have only one life. Remember, life is great!
