“S. Radhakrishnan – A True Academic Leader” - Professor M.S.Rao

“It requires a lot of courage to become an educator as it is not for everybody. If a parent is unworthy, children are spoiled; if a doctor neglects his duty, the patient dies; if an engineer performs poorly, the infrastructure collapses; and if an educator makes a mistake, an entire generation is ruined.” – Professor M.S. Rao, International Leadership Expert

Today we Indians celebrate teacher’s day to commemorate the birth anniversary of S. Radhakrishnan.  He is an amazing example of an academician reaching to the highest position of office -- President in India. He showed to everyone that teachers are leaders, and can influence beyond their academic career through their example.

He was born in Tituttani in Tamilnadu to poor parents who initially thought of making him a priest. But his parents recognized his abilities early and encouraged him to pursue studies. He pursued his education through scholarships. He led Andhra University and Banaras Hindu University.  His abilities and capabilities were spotted, and he was made as the Vice President of India. Pundit Nehru spotted his abilities, and finally he was made as the President of India.

Being born as poor is not a sin, and not a liability. The present youth should learn lessons from the biography of S. Radhakrishnan.  They must emulate his values and principles and work hard to make India as a prosperous country in the world.

According to the Hindu philosophy teacher has been accorded the third highest position next to mother and father. Hence, teachers have to play a crucial role to live up the expectations of students and to contribute their best and make a difference in the lives of students.

On the eve of teacher’s day let us salute this academic legend and emulate lessons from his academic leadership to make Indian society better and India a prosperous country in the world.
