“How Do Others Perceive Your Personality?” - Professor M.S.Rao

“Humans see what they want to see.” ― Rick Riordan

I create new psychometric tools and techniques and apply them during my teaching and training programs to improve teaching and training pedagogy. I utilize my classroom as a laboratory to explore and experiment them. After taking feedback from the teaching and training programs, I overcome the weaknesses to improve new concepts and theories.

I wanted to create an acronym for my name – ‘Professor M. S. Rao’ to evaluate my personality traits, and also to find out how students think about me. There are many students who are my loyal followers who interact with me constantly to seek career guidance. I also coach and mentor corporate executives regularly. Hence, I asked three of the loyal followers who were women from different colleges to create an acronym against my name outlining my personality traits. I selected the students from three different colleges so that they don’t interact with each other to eliminate prejudice and to achieve accuracy in results.  In fact, I wanted to assess my own personality traits based on them.  It is a kind of self-discovery from the perspective of my students.

The three women gave me their assessments/reports after two days. I opened all the three reports during my leisure time to discover my personality, and to my surprise, all the three responses were different. One student described me as a romantic author. Second student described me as a scholar, and third student described me as a leader with a visionary mindset. Instead of discovering myself I thought to write an article on perceptions.

Perceptions are all about how people see the world around them. For some people, glass is half-full, and for others glass is half-empty, and it all depends on their perceptions. And, in fact, both the responses are right.  Similarly, for some people a woman appears to be beautiful and for others same woman may not appear beautiful. It is all due to perceptions because we see the world the way we are, not the way they are. I came to a conclusion from the results of the three women that I am a romantic author, a scholar, and above all, a visionary leader.  Hence, you can also explore your personality in this way from your trusted friends and followers to achieve all-round success.
