"No stream or gas drives anything
until it is confined. No Niagara is ever turned into light and power until it
is tunneled. No life ever grows great until it is focused, dedicated and
disciplined." - Harry E. Fosdick
Some of the students often questioned
me the reasons for lack of rapid progress for India. I wanted to address this
issue as I am equally concerned about India. Like any other responsible citizen,
I also want my country to grow globally as an economic super power. I decided to put across my thoughts
straightforwardly on this issue.
Indians are very strong in Information
Technology and Mathematics. In early 2014, Satya Nadella was elevated as the
CEO of Microsoft thus making many Indians proud globally. It proves beyond
doubt that Indians are strong in IT. Indians have several strengths such as hardworking
nature, adaptability, and rising to the challenges to name a few. However, some
of the Indians lack the right attitude to avail the opportunities. They lack in
commitment which is a cause for concern in the global workplace. They also lack
focus which is very much required to grow as good citizens. Despite being
strong in various areas their lack in right attitude, commitment and focus is preventing
them from grabbing the opportunities.
Hence, Indians must address these issues earnestly without getting
defensive to grow as good citizens. The objective of any feedback is to raise
the issues that are causes for concern to bring out behavioral improvements. Remember,
feedback is not criticism but a tool to bring out behavioral improvements to
excel as better citizens.
It is unfortunate to note here that Indians
are often not trusted globally due to lack in commitment. Due to this reason,
those who go abroad work harder to build their credibility and commitment to
excel professionally. If these qualities are imbibed within India itself sky is
the limit for Indians.
“Most people have no idea of the giant
capacity we can immediately command when we focus all of our resources on
mastering a single area of our lives.” - Tony Robbins
