“When you are content to be simply
yourself and don't compare or compete, everybody will respect you.” - Lao Tzu
People often compare with others. They compare themselves to be like Bill
Gates, Richard Branson, Barack Obama or somebody else. They underestimate themselves and rarely
think of their hidden potential. At
times, it leads to dissatisfaction and depression. Sometimes they expect more
than what they want without looking at the pros and cons. Here goes the story of a beautiful horse that
wanted to be something else:
Once there was a beautiful horse. It wanted to look more attractive and beautiful.
It often felt bad that its legs were fat and neck was small. Hence, it prayed
to God to gift with a long neck and lean feet.
God advised the horse to reconsider the request. The horse was adamant
and determined to have the desired appearance and stood by its request. God
provided the boon and horse looked like a camel with long neck and lean legs.
It felt very bad but could not help. In our real lives also, people are not
happy with what they have and they still crave more by comparing with others.
God created you with some purpose and
special appearance. Don’t try to become somebody else. Don’t compare with
others as comparing with others is an insult to you. Alen Strike rightly said,
“Don’t compare yourself with anyone in this world. If you do so, you are insulting yourself.” Besides, people often confuse comparison with
inspiration as both are different. You can take inspiration from others but you
cannot compare with others. Remember that you have unique strengths, skills,
and abilities. Hence, be yourself and stand out!
“Everyone has his own specific
vocation or mission in life; everyone must carry out a concrete assignment that
demands fulfillment. Therein he cannot be replaced, nor can his life be
repeated, thus, everyone's task is unique as his specific opportunity to
implement it.” - Viktor E. Frankl
Life is great!
