“Merits of NLP” - Professor M.S.Rao

"Organizations in the future will manage feelings, beliefs, perceptions and values - the asset of emotional capital - as the hidden resources with the power to translate people's knowledge into positive action." - Kevin Thomson, author Emotional Capital (1998)

Recently I led a webinar titled, “21 Success Sutras for Leaders” organized by Time Group in India. It was based on my authored book published by Pearson Education. At the end of the webinar, there were a number of questions by the participants on leadership and one question on the merits of NLP came up. I felt that there is enormous significance attached to NLP. Hence, I decided to blog on its importance.

NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) was coined by when Richard Bandler, John Grinder and others in 1970s. It works on the premise that although you cannot change the world you can change the way in which you represent the world in your thinking. It helps you achieve excellence.  It is helpful as a teaching and learning tool. It helps in personality development, improves communication skills and brings out behavioral changes to achieve all-round success in your life.  Here are some more merits:

NLP helps you become the way you want to become. It changes your mindset. It helps you achieve excellence by bridging the gap between what you don’t have and what you want to have. It helps in your attitude building and empathizing with others. You look at the world differently and from others’ perspective. It helps you find out your weaknesses and strengths and guard you from your weaknesses. It brings you awareness that people think differently and how to align and adjust your thinking with others’ thinking and vice versa. It is rightly said that a battle is won twice first in your mind and then in real life. Hence, it bridges the gap between your vision and execution to accomplish your goals.

“To change ourselves effectively, we first had to change our perceptions.” ― Stephen R. Covey, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People
