“Narendra Modi’s Speech at New York’s Madison Square Garden – Cultivate ‘Can Do’ Attitude in Indian Youth” - Professor M.S.Rao

“Believe in yourself! Have faith in your abilities! Without a humble but reasonable confidence in your own powers you cannot be successful or happy.”–Norman Vincent Peale

Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi’s speech at New York’s Madison Square Garden during his official visit to US in September 2014 is highly inspiring. I was amazed at his speech the way he inspired Indians and especially Indian youth. Although his speech was for a short period, it inspired many Indians in America. Shiv Visvanathan, in his article ‘How Madison danced to Modi playlist’ writes about Narendra Modi as follows: “The way the man has been transformed from a roadside bully and a riot suspect to a statesman, a leader of the developing nations is fascinating to watch. Even his opponents watch with despair as he amplifies his power while they self-destruct.” Shiv adds, “Mr. Modi captured the hearts of the diaspora. Content did not matter. He led an army of clichés but each cliché, like a little corporal, had life enough to do its job. Mr. Modi left to a standing ovation.”

In his inspiring speech, Mr. Modi called upon Indians to cultivate ‘Can Do’ attitude to transform India.  I decided to contribute my little bit to inspire my readers to cultivate ‘Can Do’ attitude to achieve great success in their life.

It is the attitude that determines your altitude of success. If you acquire the attitude of ‘Can Do’, sky is the limit for you. ‘Can Do’ attitude is the ability to execute the tasks effectively. It is the capability to execute roles and responsibilities and confidence to go ahead despite odds are staked against you. Above all, it is the ability to take on the challenges with mettle. Hence, it is an imperative not only for youth but also for all Indians to cultivate ‘Can Do’ attitude and mindset to achieve anything and everything in the world.

Tips to Cultivate ‘Can Do’ Attitude
  • Don’t be overly concerned about your weaknesses. Remember, everyone has weaknesses. Identify your blindspots and make sure that you overcome them through regular training and practice. The idea to identify weaknesses is to be cautious and alert rather being dragged by them. Capitalize on your strengths. Work seriously to engage your strengths to accomplish your goals.
  • Don’t bother for failures as failures are stepping stones to success. Learn lessons from them and move on with optimism.
  • Ask yourself, when others can do, why can’t you do it? It helps you explore various options to make it happen.
  • Take feedback constantly to improve yourself. It helps you overcome your blindspots and leverage your strengths.
  • Be optimist and confident. Always look at the door that is open, not the closed one. Look at the possibilities, not impossibilities. Look for opportunities, not threats.

It is time for Indian youth to dream big to achieve big. They have a number of opportunities thrown at them currently. Only thing is to identify and explore the opportunities and work hard and smart to equip with adequate knowledge, skills and abilities to achieve amazing success in their life. Remember, everything is possible in this world, when you dream big; follow your heart; and persist consistently.  Good luck!

"Count your blessings. Once you realize how valuable you are and how much you have going for you, the smiles will return, the sun will break out, the music will play, and you will finally be able to move forward in the life that God intended for you with grace, strength, courage, and confidence." - Og Mandino

“Awaken Yourself to Awaken India!” - Professor M.S.Rao

“Arise, Awake and Stop not until the goal is reached.” – Swami Vivekananda.

An average Indian doesn’t think of adding value to his nation. An average student doesn’t think of adding value to his education.  An average child doesn’t think of adding value to his parents. An average citizen does not think of adding value to his society. Are you the one among those average Indians who doesn’t think of adding value to others? If so, it is time to change your mindset to add value to others to build a better India.

It is observed that presently people are becoming rights-oriented rather than duty-oriented. They have very high expectations from others without understanding the ground realities. It leads to frustration and ill-will against others. They expect a lot from others without understanding others’ limitations. At times, it leads to conflicts. What is essential is to contribute your best without any expectations from others. John F. Kennedy once remarked, “Ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country.” Therefore, ask yourself what value are you adding to others. Be duty-oriented, not right-oriented. Think and act. Awaken yourself. Awaken India!  Jai Hind!

“If there is one place on the face of earth where all the dreams of living men have found a home from the very earliest days when man began the dream of existence, it is India.” – Romain Rolland
